About Relay For Life

Relay For Life (RFL) is a global movement founded in May 1985 by the American Cancer Society in Tacoma, Washington. Since then, it has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, raising about US$5 billion in the fight against cancer. Each year, close to four million participants take part in RFL events across the globe, making it one of the world’s largest fundraisers.

Singapore is the 25th member country to organise RFL. The Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) aims to rally the local community to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has taken many lives. It also serves as a meaningful platform for cancer survivors, caregivers, and volunteers to be recognised, supported, and connected through a strong and caring support system.

With a target outreach of 6,000 participants, this community event also seeks to raise S$1.3 million to fund various SCS programmes and services. In addition to the 100km relay, and staying true to the spirit of Celebrate, Remember, and Fight Back, RFL includes three meaningful segments that reflect the importance of the cancer journey and the strength of those who share it.

Singapore Cancer Society

Minimising Cancer and Maximising Lives since 1964, Singapore Cancer Society (SCS) is a self-funded social service agency which provides an integrated continuum of care from cancer control and prevention to patient support services, survivorship, and palliative care. SCS’s key programmes and services include cancer screening programmes, public education, financial and welfare services, psychosocial support, survivorship care, rehabilitation programmes and hospice care. Consistently recognised for its commitment to high standards in governance and transparency, SCS has attained both the coveted Charity Governance Award (2023) and the Charity Transparency Award for four years, between 2019 to 2024.

Every year, we need to raise S$20million to fund our programmes and services.

Through the Relay For Life 2025, we aim to raise S$1.3 million to support the various programmes and services.

Funds supports
SCS Cancer Care Fund
A one-off financial assistance that aims to alleviate financial burdens and provide for immediate needs following a cancer diagnosis. This fund is accessible to newly diagnosed patients who meet the income requirements of the Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS).
SCS Cancer Rehabilitation Centre
The first and only centre that provides specialised cancer rehabilitation programmes to help cancer survivors and their families. These interventions are designed to help them be healthy, confident, and mentally and physically engaged.
SCS Cancer Treatment Fund
The SCS Cancer Treatment Fund was set up in 2005 to provide financial assistance to needy cancer patients. It subsidises part of their cancer treatment costs so that no one is denied access to treatment and proper healthcare due to financial difficulties.
SCS Welfare Aid Fund
The SCS Welfare Aid Fund seeks to mitigate the great financial strain endured by cancer patients and their families - specifically those which may arise from unemployment, loss of income and high treatment costs.
